I Bird NY for Kids

Join educators from Reinstein Woods and other partner organizations for this fun winter birding event! Teams of 4-6 kids and their adult chaperones will learn how to use binoculars and simple tips for identifying birds in winter. The teams, accompanied by an educator, will disperse to sites on the New York State Birding Trail to spend about 90 minutes exploring and counting birds along a designated route.

This friendly competition is aimed at kids age 8-16, although younger siblings are welcome. Small family groups (e.g. 1-2 children and accompanying adults) may be combined with other kids of similar age to form a “team.” Scout and other youth groups are encouraged to register, but large groups may be split into multiple teams.

When you register, you will choose the Birding Trail sites that you prefer. Teams will be notified of their assignment prior to the event. Reinstein Woods will have a limited number of binoculars available to loan, but you are welcome to bring your own. Binoculars are NOT required to participate.
