Hours and Directions

Reinstein Woods trails are open 365 days a year from sunrise to sunset. See below for Education Center hours. 

Rules and Regulations

Reinstein Woods is owned and operated by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), in partnership with Friends of Reinstein Woods. The following are PROHIBITED at Reinstein Woods without express written permission from DEC:

  • Pets and horses, including comfort and therapy animals. ONLY service dogs and miniature ponies are allowed.
  • Bikes, skateboards, and motorized vehicles on the trails
  • Collecting (taking) or releasing plants or animals
  • Hunting, trapping, and fishing
  • Alcoholic beverages and glass containers
  • Camping and campfires

Reinstein Woods is within a 5- mile radius of the Buffalo Niagara International Airport, and a special federal permit is required to fly a drone within that radius. Therefore, please leave drones at home.

Please stay on designated trails to protect the environment and dispose of trash, cigarette butts and recyclables in the containers at the parking lot trailhead. Go to the Use of Environmental Education Centers page to see state regulations that apply.

Normal building operating hours are:

Monday through Friday 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Saturday 1:00 PM – 4:30 PM
Closed Sundays, state holidays and Christmas Eve

The Education Center is a LEED Silver certified building. You can explore the building on your own by taking a cell phone tour and reading signs throughout the building, then take home information on how to make your own home more environmentally friendly.  You can learn about the construction of the building here.

Reinstein Woods Interpretive Trails

There are about three and a half miles of gentle trails for you to explore daily from sunrise to sunset. Bathrooms are available during the day.  Visitors should review the rules posted here and at Reinstein Woods. 

Interpretive pamphlets corresponding to the Lily Pond Loop, Footprint Trail, and Beech Tree Trail are available at each trailhead kiosk or inside the Environmental Education Center. Interpretive signs are found along the State Symbols Trail and History Trail. Benches are available on most trails.

Accessibility

Most of the trails at Reinstein Woods are compacted gravel/dirt roads; a few trails are covered with wood chips. Persons in wheelchairs and strollers frequently participate in tours. We also feature an accessible boardwalk leading to an overlook of the Lily Pond.

The Education Center has a scooter available for people with limited mobility to use in exploring many of the trails. Call the Education Center for details: (716) 683-5959.
