Environmental Education Internships

In conjunction with DEC, Friends of Reinstein Woods offers paid internships to persons seeking professional experience in the field of environmental education. interns receive training in the mission and role of the DEC environmental education bureau, a wide variety of center programs, the operations and activities of a center, principles of environmental interpretation and natural history of New York. The internships run for 10 weeks to eight months depending on the season. 

Anyone with a minimum of two years of college-level study or equivalent experience and able to work in the United States may apply. Academic training in environmental education, natural resources, natural sciences (biology, geology, etc.), environmental science, interpretation, education, outdoor recreation or a related field is advantageous. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong natural history background, experience with teaching or youth leadership, and a demonstrated interest in environmental education.

Depending on availability, housing may be provided. For 2023, interns are paid $15/hour for a 37.5 hour work week.

Winter-Summer (Jan – Aug): September 30

Summer (late May- Aug): January 31

AmeriCorps Position  

Reinstein Woods annually seeks an enthusiastic person to serve in a 10-month AmeriCorps position through the Student Conservation Association’s New York State Parks Corps. In addition to the skills and experience you will gain serving at Reinstein Woods, the AmeriCorps member will receive a variety of training opportunities from the Parks Corps during their service. The position starts in mid- January.

The AmeriCorps Member at Reinstein Woods helps connect underserved youth with nature through programs at public schools and after-school care programs. The member also leads adults and youth in educational tours and stewardship activities at Reinstein Woods. AmeriCorps offers a tremendous opportunity to increase your skills while serving your community. Members receive a living stipend, free housing and an educational award at the end of their service.
