What is Water Academy?
Water Academy is a college-level course offered by Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper for both formal and informal educators. A series of workshops explores current, local environmental issues and provocative solutions now being implemented in the Niagara River watershed. This program offers an extensive range of learning opportunities through:

  • Field exploration
  • Service learning projects
  • Unique partnerships with local organizations:
    • Friends of Reinstein Woods
    • Western New York Land Conservancy
    • Buffalo Audubon Society
    • Earth Spirit Educational Services
    • PUSH Buffalo
    • Cradle Beach Camp
    • The Nature Sanctuary Society
    Benefits for teachers:
    • Earn a $600.00 stipend (must complete course to receive stipend)
    • Earn Continuing Education credits (check with your institution)
    • Learn about current, local issues from diverse presenters & partners
    • Receive adaptable lesson plans for your classroom
    • Field experience

    Fall 2017 semester dates: August 30 – December 6
    Workshops are held Wednesdays from 4:30 PM – 6:20 PM

    Please read the application form carefully for information on applying for a stipend and Continuing Education credits. Teachers seeking Continuing Education credits must submit this application to Reinstein Woods AND apply for Water Academy online at www.ecc.edu. Deadline to apply is July 31, 2017.
