Christmas Fern


(Polystichum acrostichoides)

Description:  A common Eastern North American native, loved because of it’s evergreen even in severe winters

Height:  1-3 feet

Sun requirements: Part shade to full shade

Soil requirements: Moist, well-drained soils

Wildlife Value: Offers shelter for small wildlife

Uses: Christmas Fern does not tolerate clay soils or standing water, it must have good drainage and ample shade, however it is the most drought tolerant of all the ferns. Has lustrous evergreen leaves which last all winter.  Resists deer, and rabbits, insects and disease; one of the more drought-resistant fern species; a well-behaved plant
